So that was the St. Patricks Day special in the Shebeen! Pretty good and lots of positive feedback. Unfortunately the second band booked for the night had a car accident on the road to Vienna but as hot as their canned luck was, noone was injured. But bad enough they were not able to make it for the night. So our best wishes go out to Hot Can Luck!

Whats up??? Another one of this time holes?? Must be. However, we are still alive and still productive in that wicked chaotic way we always have been. Meaning we are recording mixing, arguing and finally dumping the recordings into the bin... No we are not, are we? Ok, well this happens sometimes. But we do have some sort of plan now and allot of good music in the... erm... bin. But this is to keep only the very best of the stuff to finally knock your head off! Watch out!

We have moved and are now in the process of adapting and reestablishing a good practice room environment! computers are up and running again and neighbors are not complaining yet (what a wonder!). Amazingly we got all our deposit back from the ‘ground stone street’ room, although the landlords treated us and the place like shit while we stayed there. O man, we have been there for ages. Basically it was a good room but much too small and expensive! All those crazy colored photos on our page are taken in this old room, so you might get an impression.

Loose or lose, that is the question. goose or gose, or moose or mose? that is the answer. hello the world. been a while away from these pages so what's up or down? well the new release is definitely going to be called THE GOOD LIBRARY by thegoodlibrary. kind of fitting in an eponymous kind of way and the work has been feverish and the results pretty wild. still planned for an autimn release followed up with gigs and a return to the silver screen at screensessions3(plans are for a controversial anti drug video to the tune of whore in glory; any junkies out there willing to volunteer their services call us on Spoof 101). glad to say that our beloved mr dillon is back with us for awhile, he's been on serious family duty back in the UK. my favourite mindblowing song of the moment is by a band called the fields and can be found at myspace.com. To the sea. Download now!
Now you're talking. This is the ultra rare, very sleek, very brash 'to the sea' E.P. This originally appeared in early 2002 to little or no response. The four songs, 'to the sea', 'acid', 'in the sun' and "Nothing to be afraid of" were intended for a full length release that never ever happened. all four songs caused tumultuous headaches and holy hangovers and mountains of indecision before ending in glory. We mixed, remixed and chopped and changed and visited studios right across Vienna. In the end what appeared is what you get. Four bursts of very powerful pop music played by four very powerful lunatics. My favourite song is without a doubt the psychedelic anthemic 'In the Sun'. This song which could earn us millions if we sold it to a certain disgusting U.K. newspaper, was written and recorded in a whirlwind in July 2001. It was a windy, wet, awful Thursday night in the old Südbahnhof rehearsal rooms. The next day I was off to Crete for a pre honeymoon and high and happy. In repeatedly yelling the chorus-like verse in homage to true summer the guys played up a racket to drown me out and thus 'In the Sun.' was created. I hope you enjoy this release, it was the beginning of the new sound of thegoodlibrary, a beginning of the post dope/acid sound. And by the way the original 'In the Sun' recording is available unadulterated and rainy thursdayized on the 'Prankster Tale' download from the previous month. What! What! Greetings from once more Vienna 'In the Sun'. Chris. X

Oh my god, we still owe you the january cd! So here is a very rare golden little egg out of our nest: A Pranksters tale (whole cd, 50MB zip file) This is a personal favourite of mine. In a way it is the real follow up to the heralded 'Dalai Lemma' mini masterpiece. 'Prankster Tale' missed getting any release at all due to apathy at the time and an insistence on releasing E.P.s instead of full ten track releases. Therefore what you hear is what you get. 11 tracks of carefree creative wildness. A fruitcake version of 'to the sea' a crazed version of 'in the sun' and the now almost legendary 'prankster tale' three song suite. We decided to run tracks 6,7 and 8 under the same name. Slow, then speedier then funked out. The whole thing finishes off with the classic 'AMERIKAN NATIONAL ANTHEM' a slow, poignant flag waving meander. This collection of songs has been heard by the grand total of six people in the whole world. Now's your chance and its absolutely freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! These are songs written during the year 2002, love 'em in the year 2006!

As a prelude to the new cd, 'the last chance, the sad loon' here come the lyrics before the music....................the whore in glory. - a song about the injustice of the worst, most ruthless people getting into the highest of positions in our society. what i've tried to do is catch the power of innocence before its tainted by the fear of fear and failure. all children are gifted the ability to see things in a way which denies having power over anything apart from their own fast moving limbs. the world described in 'the whore in glory' is the time before conforming becomes a prerequisite. i dedicate the song to all Republican Presidents of the United States and most especially to the most monstrous grocer's daughter Margaret Thatcher.

Jorge Luis Borges - The Art of Poetry To gaze at a river made of time and water
And remember Time is another river.
To know we stray like a river
and our faces vanish like water.
To feel that waking is another dream
that dreams of not dreaming
and that the death we fear in our bones is the death that every night we call a dream.
To see in every day and year a symbol
of all the days of man and his years,
and convert the outrage of the years
into a music, a sound, and a symbol.
To see in death a dream, in the sunset
a golden sadness--such is poetry,
humble and immortal, poetry,
returning, like dawn and the sunset.
Sometimes at evening there's a face
that sees us from the deeps of a mirror.
Art must be that sort of mirror,
disclosing to each of us his face.
They say Ulysses, wearied of wonders,
wept with love on seeing Ithaca,
humble and green.
Art is that Ithaca, a green eternity, not wonders.
Art is endless like a river flowing,
passing, yet remaining, a mirror to the same inconstant Heraclitus, who is the same and yet another, like the river flowing. 23rd of january 200623 is supposedly one of those mystical numbers. one of thos digits or set of digits that carry some weight with it/them. Robert Anton Wilson he of the Cosmic Trigger fame, was convinced of the weird power of the number 23. he even claimed of some super mystical link to Alser Strasse 23 in Vienna, and if you walk past the front door you maybe see why. Anyhow I've always watched out for the number 23 and sure enough it does carry some coincidental force with it. Just as does a 7 or a 77 or even the classic 13. So as it is this day the 23rd of the first month here goes. This is the listing of the songs which the new album will be made up of. Some are working titles, some not. Whatever the weather at least eleven maybe twelve of these will make it onto the new album tentatively scheduled for an early summer release. This is another year and as we believe in free love:
download our Dalai-Lemma CD now!
The Dalai Lemma is 10 tracks of beautifully woven music in between spaces of pure psychedelic bliss and the haunting words spoken Vine Sweetland on Track 4, 'Hyperventilation'.
"I remember the making of this one as a furious quick process. We were in our ex studio by the train tracks at sudbahnhof and we wanted a foil to the extremely full sound of our previous release 'GOOD'. Our sound engineer had tired of our antics so we did it ourselves and decided to do it quickly. The result is Dalai lemma. It is admittedly and purposely unfinished except for the classic 'Hyperventilation' and the weird 'Don Kyoto.'. One reviewer from London dared to even question what traumas the band had gone through to devolve from the huge 'good' cd to this sparse epic. My answer would be that we needed to put forth that which we were feeling and that was confusion. A confusion that reigned with the band right through until the seminal 'finnigans bluff' recording. Dalai Lemma is something edgy and alert, almost manic and dangerous. Enjoy it if you feel that way too! It's true!

Our Y2k cd "Good" can now be downloaded. this cd, a suite of psychedelic soundscapes, was originally run off on the 'damned good' label, a release of a 100 copies. now all gone and scattered into the wind. the original tracks were recorded in a studio set up at club danube at erdberg. the engineer was a young guy who had never run into middle aged acid casualties before. we as i remember sat on a table under a strong beam of sunlight surrounded by lycra wearing fitness freaks. we were so unfit it was funny. the recording took place sometime late 99 early 2000 when the world was terror free. our aim was just to explore specific keys and tamper with melody and rhythm. the names and tunes came thick and fast. we had played four consecutive saturdays at a little viennese club that season and had learnt how to expand on a theme, endlessly. the last piece 'the man with the fourteen coloured nipple' was basically an essential piece of the time, a full blown freak out in the key of G Major. Influenced by the Batman theme and titled by an Australian surf bum who really had a fourteen coloured nipple. the cd was well received in the underground U.S.A. and my good old mum's quote was the best: 'It's not very good is it?'. Well it was good enough for us and in retrospect i think it is a classic. i hope you like it. Chris D. X Click here !!!!! More fantastic news from from the greatest man on earth."I will fight all of you," Anton Newcombe said to the sold-out crowd. Maybe the Brian Jonestown Massacre's lunacy onstage Sunday at the Bowery Ballroom can be blamed on the night's full moon? Or perhaps band founder Antone Newcombe's hostility toward band, crew and audience alike was the result of having his beloved guitar stolen the eve before? More likely, there was no reason for the chaotic sold-out spectacle other than it was just an ordinary day in the life of the band's madcap musical visionary.During lengthy lulls blamed on tuning problems, Newcombe took the opportunity to challenge the sincerity of those in attendance. Without provocation, Newcombe called out, "I will fight all of you." He yelled, "Your love sucks" at one well-wisher and called another fan "a dark little demon," saying, "My God will fucking kill you." He also threatened to wait another 20 minutes if anyone threw anything at the stage. Then the band's lashing came, which explains why the group has had about 60 players course through its lineup over the years. This incarnation of the band, which included returning original member Ricky Maymi (guitar), Frankie Teardrop (guitar), Collin Hegna (bass) and Dan Allaire (drums), appeared unusually tolerant -- particularly Teardrop, who was asked to leave the stage and then ordered to return."I don't understand why you give me the worst amp," Newcombe said to Teardrop. "Is your guitar in tune? Give me your guitar. Why don't you ask your girlfriend's dad to fly you home?"Dysfunction finally subsided long enough for the full band to strike a song, an extended jam of "Hide and Seek," where Newcombe's disturbingly peaceful guitar style and hazy vocals reminded everyone why they were still there. Next was "Nevertheless," where the band hit its stride, with all three guitarists playing essentially the same parts cooperatively through the same amps, with reverb on 10.The rest of the set teetered between wonderfully impulsive, twangy guitars with a futuristic spin and temperamental sanity from bare-chested circus-master Newcombe. By the third song, "Swallow Tail," Newcombe had cautioned the audience, "I had a bad day, and I don't want your bullshit." By the fourth, "Nailing Honey to the Bee," Newcombe reminded the audience that he had a hard day but declared he was ready to play again. And by the fifth tune, "Wherever You Are," finally the first sensible words were uttered by Maymi, who leaned to tune his guitar and said to the front row, "It's like a rock concert in the Twilight Zone."

A report from New York about the heroic, shamanic genius called Anton of the brianjonestown massacre.

"Oh Anton, will you ever been taken serious again? That was the question going through my mind last night while I watched Anton Newcombe “perform”. The show was billed as a special Brian Jonestown Massacre show. But it was anything but special. The show was supposed to be an all-acoustic performance but instead it turned into just another typical show for Anton. For those that are unfamiliar with the trouble front man of the neo 60’s psychedelic rock group, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Anton Newcombe was at one time consider by many to be a savior of rock’n’roll. He brought back a sound that many people had forgotten about and made it a sound all his own. He was had many imitators through out the years. However Anton has always been quite mad, and self-destructive. So it was no surprise that the original members of the Brian Jonestown Massacre left the band and Anton slow began to slip into oblivion. But just when people thought he was gone for good, the 2005 documentary “DIG” brought the band back in a big way. Then there was the release of greatest hits and then slowly rumors that Anton was more in control and that his live performance where not just about going and watching and waiting for Anton to do something crazy. Perhaps it was these rumors and people hopes that Anton would live up to his potential that got them 3 shows during CMJ and 2 post CMJ shows. It was during the second of their second show of CMJ that the announcement that the bands equipment had be stolen. I am unsure what happen at those shows but my guess is it was similar to what happened last night.Anton was showing signs of begin a little crazy from the beginning of the show when he was arguing with members of The Morning After Girls about who was going on first. Anton won and eventually took the stage with a barrowed guitar. Here is a roughly what then occurred Anton yelled at the crowd and complained about the guitar he was barrowing. He then yelled at the soundman. Then he went and did the sound himself. He then returned to the stage. Then started a song and then he stopped. He then started again. Then he yelled at the crowd for yelling at him. Then he insulted one of the other bands. Then he threatened a person in the crowd. Then he tried to play a different song. Then he played most of the song “Stars”. Then stopped and yelled again. He then got pissed off and decides to start playing the Morning After Girls’ instruments. And then Anton just jumped of the stage and left. I walked home last nigt wondering as I have often wondered “Is Anton just crazy?” “Does he just act this way because it is what is expected of him?” “Is this really what the crowd wants?” and of course “What will happen to this one time great musician?”$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ good library played great gig in B72 on sunday. the band were craigless but put in a pagan blast of noise and vibes in his honour. great sound, great location, great audience. the band have been offered a gig at the rhiz as a result and watch this space. next gig is on november the 12th, a lovely old saturday at the lovely old bach. set list for the b72 - cooking, bbc tv, loveboat, return of the cat (x2), punk lady, hory glory, mixdown, arab song, wise types. see you soon on the other side of dawn.carol X.

Found this on a news website and found it very educational and wanted to share it with the 'fucking' whole world.LONDON, (AFP) - British tourists have left the residents of one charming Austrian village effing and blinding by constantly stealing the signs for their oddly-named village. While British visitors are finding it hilarious, the residents of F---ing are failing to see the funny side, The Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported.Only one kind of crimimal ever stalks the sleepy 32-house village near Salzburg on the German border -- cheeky British tourists armed with a sense of humour and a screwdriver. But the local authorities are hitting back and with the signs now set in concrete, police chief Kommandant Schmidtberger is on the lookout."We will not stand for the F---ing signs being removed," the officer told the broadsheet."It may be very amusing for you British, but F---ing is simply F---ing to us. What is this big F---ing joke? It is puerile."Local guide Andreas Behmueller said it was only the British that had a fixation with F---ing."The Germans all want to see the Mozart house in Salzburg," he explained."Every American seems to care only about 'The Sound of Music' (the 1965 film shot around Salzburg). The occasional Japanese wants to see Hitler's birthplace in Braunau."But for the British, it's all about F---ing."Guesthouse boss Augustina Lindlbauer described the village's breathtaking lakes, forests and vistas."Yet still there is this obsession with F---ing," she said."Just this morning I had to tell an English lady who stopped by that there were no F---ing postcards."TEEHEEHEEHEE! THE PSYCHEDELIC CHRONICLES (PART ONE!).AN EXCERPT.Ahead of us the future lay like cracked ice on a polished glass floor. This is a tale of Europeans and their excess trails.Vienna disappeared into the trees as the train kept on climbing and Austria fled by in a blur. This was a landscape alive with its velvet green hills, dotted with lazy grazing animals. This was a time when we were leaving Austria behind, heading away and moving away from a collage of recent dreams and fatal confusion. The mysterious female was to blame. I had just waved her away at the station. Anna, she was called and she had already permeated further than my logical control had thought possible. As a result I’d chosen to flee the country. Ronny and I were on our way to Nice in France. There was no reason to travel onwards to France, only that Ronny had heard that there was work available there. He’d heard this from a dubious kid in a Viennese bar and for the impulsive Ronny that was enough. Our next port of call from that point on had to be Nice on the Cote D’Azure. It mattered little as far as I was concerned, I didn’t care where I was going. I was already lost in a way. It was lucky I still had money for that meant I didn’t need to worry about anything tangible for a while. Our initial decision to leave our homes in England had grown out of the need to move, and somehow we already felt that our decision had been vindicated. Especially considering Britain had been cold when we’d left her shores four weeks earlier. In that humid, early morning sun of our Southbound railway trek there was little remorse in our minds. It was early summer in the year nineteen ninety one and our bubble of enthusiasm was floating artificially high amongst the clouds. As we sat staring out of the train window the two of us talked of our hopes in painted pictures of fine construction. We also spent a little time on looking backwards. The recent past was finished. I for my part had just thrown away a promising career in the world of business and dollars on the Stock Exchange floor! Expensive suits and overt competition had been the intended way forward but I’d quickly found out that I cut it more as a reckless hedonist. I was twenty five years old, single, wild haired, blindly enthusiastic and an evangelist of the lost cause. Tall and thin was the figure I carried with me and a cowboy was what I was, or at least was trying to be. Some people said that I looked like a young maniac, others said I looked old for my age. Which ever, it was me that I was searching for, whatever I looked like. “Hey, the sun, it looks warm!”. Said Ronny with crazed?out eyes. “I think this summer is going to be a very hot one!”. He added stating the obvious. Ronny was twenty three years old, small and thin. He wore John Lennon glasses to cover his eyes, and long hair to cover his glasses. His reasons for exploring were probably very different to mine but as a pair of modern explorers we often liked looking in the same places. One of Ronny’s hidden strengths was his power of prediction. These predictions of his were often unnaturally correct. He seemed to be talented in that way, talented or cursed in equal measures. He seemed also to have a powerful control over coincidence somehow. And another of his main preoccupations was reading, he was an avid reader, one who would read at any opportunity, all of the time. Wherever he could he would smuggle out a book that had been hidden somewhere on his person. My way was different, my way was I suppose, to watch, to observe and many times we’d argued about the most meaningful way. There was though no real point in ever arguing with Ronny, he would never back down in submission, to anyone. No matter how ludicrous his standpoint was, he would defend it like a wild one. I respected that in him. That train morning we forgot about confrontation and chose instead to weave clean patterns with talk of all of the things we had already left behind. I sighed a little as I thought of another set of days and nights in the limbo of travelling but my instinct had been right, it had all been true. There is a special place that exhaustion and travel can take you to. It’s called recklessness, others call it beyond caring! In the train compartment our splattered conversation gave birth to much laughter as we waved to old guys on tractors, cheering loudly as they failed to wave back. “They’re ploughing their fields.”. I said as I took a long gulp of cold beer! “As we’re ploughing onwards! It’s the same search for the ground!”.Ronny frowned at my mock philosophy then we began to sing, well began to shout words with different sounds. This lasted all the way through the mountains then suddenly all twenty carriages came to a stop.It seemed like we were motionless for an age and we just sat on our pretend fury, giggled like fools then leapt our eyes around the playpen. Finally some railway god eventually heard our pleas and the train took off like an amphetamine?fuelled rocket. The rails sparked into flame as we powered up mountains and crashed through stations at enormous speed.A minute later and without our noticing there was a new face looking in! It was a bearded middle aged man. Rat?a?tat?tat went the beat on the window. The drummer wanted our tickets, but wouldn’t take our beer. It was only the ticket collector.I immediately began to enthusiastically tell the guy all about my thing at that time but he never even tried to understand. My thing at the time was my new kaleidoscope. In Vienna, in an old wooden shack owned by a thin faced old gypsy woman I’d bought a kaleidoscope, it was instantly my prized possession. It was like visual imagery at the twist of a wrist. The kaleidoscope’s coloured sand was like a trapped garden of some lost winding path. Those spectacular grains of a dozen hues would form instantaneous patterns and then change. The shapes would melt images of smiles into anger, calm into confusion and I just loved the continuity. One moment it was a butterfly then a lava flow into a sunset sky. My precious kaleidoscope seemed to breathe life into the lost age of colour, namely childhood. That morning though my view backwards was blocked by the negative image of the ticket collector now nicknamed Grandad. He looked studiously at, through, and over our perfectly legal tickets, then suspiciously at us. I smiled a smile, all my twenty five years of politeness were encapsulated in my usual smile. Then the guy winked as he handed back the flimsy pieces of valuable paper.“Thanks.”. I said rising up to follow the guy back into the narrow sunsplashed corridor of the train.“Going to get some beer!”. I shouted back to Ronny.I entered the thin corridor as the train wove carelessly from side to side, throwing me gently from left to right, then nearly to the floor.Doors flung open wide, windows rattled, bottles fell, children cried. It was as if a wild hurricane was whistling through the whole train. The placid personalities of the Austrian nation were seated in the compartments on their soft cushions, they seemed vaguely interested in my progress. I felt a hundred eyes follow my every movement with sneaky sideways glances. It was only panic though, a panic borne out of my extreme sleep deprivation. Hiding behind my pitch black sunglasses I tried to look sober and calm but suddenly the railway line ran into a tunnel. There were nineteen stripes of darkness into light.Out of the tunnel stood daylight and in that yellow daylight waited the buffet?car.“Are you American, Sir?”. The waiter immediately asked in annoyingly trivial tones.“No!” I should have answered, “I come from Mars!”.“How do you mean?”. The guy would have stammered.“I call my mother Ma you see! So I come from Ma’s!”. Is what I could have said. Instead the buffet boy and I simply exchanged small talk as he took my money."Keep the faith!”. I said ambiguously before taking the bottles and heading back to the satin?cave compartment. On returning to Ronny and my seat I decided to plug into my Discman and sample a blast of the Sixties’ Los Angeles sound. Soon my mildly drunken perspective was being manipulated by Jim Morrison’s long gone dark poetics. I’d learnt about the Doors from my parents. My parents were old school ‘Woodstock’ types that on a warm day still gave off an ever so slight wiff of Petunia oil. Hippies they’d been, free love, afghan coats, hair to their knees and mind expanding everything types. I fear some of their crazy ethos might have inevitably rubbed off on me, though I’d fought it hard, damned hard. They were now both retired from the flower power scene, deep into pottery and folk music! The Doors though, I had always thought that they were great and that was okay with my stringent anti authority ethos.. After drifting for several songs Ronny eventually awoke me from the grips of the trance. It was a real shock to be hauled back so suddenly, I nearly choked on my beer.“Hey!”. I said before tumbling into crazed laughter.“Where are we?”. I asked of my travelling companion. He said that he knew nothing of our location then continued writing feint messages into a green book that he always carried,“Write something about Location Nowhere, lost in the mountains of snow!”. Said I offering some ironic advice. “You know nothing!”. He replied laughingly.“Nowhere, nothing, nobody!”. I countered. “It’s all the same to me.”. So went the typically rabid early hours of our bubble trip away from Vienna. There was beer, there was shouted conversation, there was the buffet?car and there was location nowhere. The countryside fled past and we failed to notice it.We were too firmly lost along our own path. Between reality and imagination is the thinnest line! I thought in swirling visions of what I had been told. Slowly the pieces in the picture came together. There were cars, there were busy streets. The traffic signals were stuck on red. It was lunch in the sprawling desert state capital of Phoenix. It was 1967.Circle had always been different, at least he’d always felt kind of different to other people. He’d lived in the desert metropolis for all of his twenty or so years, and despite the swathes of advice he could see no point leaving. The problem was that Circle hated work. The idea of nine to five and the violence of business lay beyond his Turquoise Landscape. Since High School he’d only done two Jobs. One for three tedious weeks, and one for a day. Circle was a Junky, and so were his like minded friends. They were ‘Imagination Junkies’.In a big gang they would trip into, trip in, and trip out of the empty calm of the vast Sonoran Desert. In the desert’s far reaches so the rumour went grew the wild, mind expanding drug known as ‘Mind Velvet’. So called due to the mythical plant’s soothing, cushioning properties. The hunts carried out would take the form of religious soul searching, and usually persistence and mental collaboration would ensure suspended success yet no Mind Velvet. For the Phoenix Imagination Junkies, 1967 was shaping up well, summer was already dancing on the horizon. That traffic signal morning found Circle clogged in the urban chaos of rush hour. He needed to get to Ketz’s place. Ketz was a dealer, a pusher, a supplier man. And he always held enough crash bang dope to save the Imagination Junkies the hassle of coming down during the midweek endurance tests.Circle was now only a few stops from Ketz’s, but man the travelling with the real world was beginning to do his head in!!

NEWS 07.10.2002
“FACTOR X” A RANT! There's a specific ingredient in any truly 'out there' head music, some might say it's drugs but I would like to classify it rather more as the 'factor X'. The more X in a band's music then the less commercially successful the band becomes. The lack of X inversely means the masses will get it. MC5 had some specific strong version of the X and by god, at times they seem to come from some other planet. Wailing guitars and a break neck bass and Fred 'Sonic' Smith's always pleading vocal lines. In their most pure form the early MC5 were eight years before punk, three years before heavy rock and a million light years from home. 'Kick out the Jams' was used by the KLF as a great sample, blending sixties and nineties music for the first time to huge effect. The MC5 ‘live’ must have been an assault on the audience's sanity, a true 'Factor X' overdose. Imagine the arse end of the 1960's with the love and peace era dead and buried, the idealism overrun with strong arm reality, then throw in the MC5 as some gargoyle version of what went wrong or right. The MC5 said more in their style than a thousand acid heads could manage when describing the fallout of a world changing decade. 'Factor X' of course is an expensive commodity, to live on the borderline has it's snarling dogs waiting. Just ask Morrison, Barret, Cobain or even Van Vilet. Detroit with it's industrial waste was probably not very Love and Haight even in 1967 but in the grasses grown over the sidewalks lurks that potent plant form 'FactorX’. MC5 waked those streets and breathed in hard. Give a super man ‘wonder’ a high level of X and watch the fireworks. It ain 't just drugs. George Clinton of Funkadelic also walked the 'factor X' main drags in that Northern motor metropolis. His initial jolly holly band The Parliaments were a tiny indication of the full blown X-ian majesty of his creation Funkadelic. George had the X too deep in his soul to become another of the hundreds of mass friendly type. Late in the sixties aware of the psychedelic thing he began the unwinding spiral ride called Funkadelic. Now many of us have probably at some time fallen in to the misconception that Earth Wind and Fire = The Jackson5 = Funkadelic. Lame funk all too sadly lacking in the god-like X. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. . . . . The first Funkadelic albums are some of the greatest 'Factor X' music of ALL TIME. The re's one song in particular 'I've got a thing. . . . 'off the eponymous first album that has the greatest one minute of power X ever. The whole song a somewhere rap just explodes into a freak out that dives and rises like no other band has before or after even come close to(none that I've ever heard anyhow. ). Have a listen and please contact me if I'm wrong. Life flashes before your eyes in these moments of greatness. George Clinton in the Nineties has scored the soundtrack to the Austin Powers film and continued to weave his X around the globe. But man dive back to those first Funkadelic works to hear the truth. Another time and another space. 'Funkadelic' and 'Free your ASS'(Check out the sleeve notes for some fucking depth) are especially classic X music that should be treated with the same reverence as finding the Dead Sea scrolls, the Holy Grail and Noah's Ark all at the same time. For proof of life on other planets just listen to early Funkadelic. Off it's 'Factor X' head. Now as proof that 'Factor X' is a global phenomenon it's time to leave the Detroit grey skyline and skip to late1960's Deutschland of all places. A commune off it's collective head that produced not one but two major X bands, AmonDuul1 and II. Munich 1968, the typical million miles away from Haight Ashbury, Carnaby Street scenario. But the ‘X’ lives and grows in different stoned out chimneys right across these lands. The early Amon Duul recordings are beautiful but rather chaotically produced. The producer zonked from behind rose tinted acid sunglasses hearing a squeaking instead of lead guitar solos. It's on Phallus Dei by Amon Duul II that X truly begins to fly. Especially on the huge title track that weaves and soars for a long time, kicking in and dropping out at will. This is NOT background music. People should be forbidden to speak during such sessions. Gurgling and breathing are the only acceptable sounds. X in the air and mind so in the face off the whole mass generation. With some trepidation I come to the most zig zag out there album of it's type. People of the more natural X variety, mountain climbers and explorers have spent many years searching for proof of the existence of Big foot or as it's more commonly known the YETI. To sit and be enwrapped by the Amon Duul II album of the same name is to peer over a snowed out cliff of polished ‘Factor X' music. Gentle lilting tunes swarm into huge mind scrapes of sound. But where X truly meets Y on the huge psychedelic battleground is on the title track. Eighteen minutes of bareback horse riding across a paisley desert plain with X in your eyes. The sense of no time, no place is all pervading. Six minutes into the song can seem like six hours or less than a day. X over load that takes over and gently massages your head. Yeti the track man oh man, from the point when the screech of the first guitars come in is one long journey through Tolkien's land of psychedelic X. If Ken Kesey would have had these boys at the Acid Tests then the world ‘would really’ have changed shape. So you go through the Yeti trip and survive the next track 'Yeti talks to the Yogi' (Imagine that for a conversation), then as some kind of total Christmas gift of all time you get the 3am. X track 'Sandoz in the rain '. This track is absolutely beautiful, and soo, soo deeply in love with it’s environment. It's the equivalent of having your X head stroked by seaweed in the midst of an acid come down. Sure things are still curving away but the stroke, stroke, stroke and the calm, calm all surrounding calm. "If you go to the door, where the roads, trees and leaves say……………………”“Yes to love.”.

this is what 'pooterland' an e-magazine from London say about the band's Dalai-Lemma release. What you get is fuzz, reverb, floaty happenings, and heavy bluesy riffs that at times bite your ears off . It has a certain softness that is suddenly obliterated by big fuzz and brain churning guitar. Way back when in 1998, they graced the U.K with their presence at the "Laurel Tree" in London where "they rocked London with psychedelic energy". Now if this album is anything to go by they probably did. It is a shame we at Pooterland didn't know about them then. If they do ever make a return I for one would part with my hard earned £s (or should that be Euros, no politics please) to go and hear them curdle my cranium. If we ever gave sugar cubes for track titles then the brilliantly named "You're not lost just misplaced" would have to get 5. But hey, music ain't about titles it's about music and overall it's a very good album with some very fine guitar work and spacey synths, and comes recommended. thanks guys. carlos
